PART ONE
 |
After many years of faithful anonymous assistance to the Knifethruhead entertainment juggernaut, members of the band have graciously allowed me to step out from behind the internet curtain, so to speak, and tell my story.
My full name is Newton Booth Freudenthal; and yes, I was named after the Indiana-born senator. I go by "Newton Booth" partially as a tribute, and because I like the idea of having a sort of "stage name" or entertainment-based alter ego (although members of Knifethruhead have assured me countless times that there is no need for such an affectation). But around here, everyone just calls me the webmaster! LOL |
I first met Knifethruhead at one of their earliest shows, at an animal rights benefit in Davis, California. Their behavior got their set cut short, and subsequently ejected from the venue. I approached them in the parking lot, where they had reconvened to ingest the fans' pharmaceutical offerings and autograph fliers. Some of them seemed slightly confused, while the rest gave an air of intense disinterest in the world around them. They did share a common disorientation, attributed to their unfamiliar surroundings (I would come to find that the nearly 20 miles they had traveled was, for them, quite strenuous). By chance, I asked if the band needed anything; I was promptly handed a well-worn scrap of paper with a list of strange terms and objects (pictured right). |

After some sleuthing in a nearby convenience store, the only items I could obtain were the Watermelon-flavored Now and Later candy, and several 40-ounce bottles of Laser-brand malt liquor. By asking what I later discovered was an undercover police officer, I was able to identify the remaining items as street handles for specific dissociatives and deliriants that the band was anxious to get their hands on.
My meager gifts must have pleased Knifethruhead somewhat, because I was not immediately dismissed from the crowd encircling them back at the parking lot. For the time being, I was admitted access to where they held their rather confused court. |
